Kids learn more by observing our actions than by listening to our words. Bubbles are unavoidable. The best we can do is to expand our comfort zones consciously and, in the process, offer them openness in their own lives. Each time we choose not to make friends with someone from a different socioeconomic background, fail to distinguish between a need and a want, avoid difficult conversations with family members, cease to be okay when things around us are not okay, we inadvertently send signals that shape how they approach uncomfortable situations. Gated communities just manifest the walls we built within when we grew up.
